Prelims 2023 · Environment · Question 22
Consider the following statements: Statement-I: Marsupials are not naturally found in India. Statement-II: Marsupials can thrive only in montane grasslands with no predators. Which one of the following is correct in respect of the above statements?
Answer
Statement-I is correct but Statement-II is incorrect
- Statement-I: Correct. Marsupials are naturally found mainly in Australia and nearby regions, and in the Americas (e.g., opossums); they are not naturally found in India.
- Statement-II: Incorrect. Marsupials do not thrive only in montane grasslands with no predators; they occupy many habitats such as forests, deserts and grasslands, and several live alongside predators.
- Since Statement-I is correct but Statement-II is incorrect, the correct answer is (c).
