Prelims 2026 · Geography · Question 26
Which of the following with reference to Indian States is/are **not** correct?

1. Uttar Pradesh shares its boundary with the highest number of other Indian States.
2. Rajasthan shares the longest international border among all Indian States.
3. Sikkim is the only State that shares its boundary with just one other Indian State.

Select the answer using the code given below:
Answer
2 and 3
The incorrect statements are 2 and 3. Statement 2 is wrong because an official West Bengal state document gives West Bengal an international border of 2,758.7 km in total (Bangladesh 2,216.7 km, Bhutan 182 km, Nepal 100 km), whereas Rajasthan Customs states Rajasthan’s Pakistan border is 1,037 km. Statement 3 is wrong because Sikkim does share an Indian-state border only with West Bengal, but Meghalaya also has only one Indian-state neighbour—Assam. Statement 1 is acceptable as correct: official/Census-linked UP material shows Uttar Pradesh bordered by Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar (with some official summaries also mentioning Himachal Pradesh/Delhi), while Assam officially borders seven states; so UP is at least tied for the maximum, and on some official map listings exceeds it.
